The Dead Sea is an Ancient Sea, steeped in History…it is a fact acknowledged by everybody.. its Shores stretching out parallel to those of the Mediterranean… and its southern boundaries verge on the Gulf of Aqaba. It is also commonly known that due to its concentrated and dense saline composition, this sea is indeed “dead”… Totally devoid of all forms, and signs of Fish Life and relevant human activities linked to Mankind and to other living creatures…Yet my visit to this place and my relation to it, as an Artist was not initiated by mere physical reasons related to its beauty or artistic patterns…but rather to its historic dimensions, civilizational events and conceptual meanings. In fact these factors beckoned me to behold and express this vista on canvas...For the Dead Sea falls within the Heart of the Ancient World…its shores touch worlds, countries and places of a very particular nature. These sites were indeed the cradle of beliefs, ideas and religions that shook the corners of the earth and set a static world in motion and generated the most crucial events... It is a unique region, one that greatly interacted with Ancient Egyptian civilization and served as a beacon of light that illuminated and enriched Humanity everywhere…As a result, the rhythm of life changed, ideas shifted, tendencies and interests ran in different directions, justifications for love and peace fluctuated…Eventually, the Dead Sea had to suffer the woes of clashes and conflicts…
Nonetheless I strongly believe that Art is capable of fostering hope, of sowing the seeds of love and peace along the shores of this Dead Sea so that Man and Artist may once again replenish the sources of life on one hand and on the other eradicate the causes that stifle and destroy it.
